One of Italy's principle cities about an hour south of Rome, by high speed train, or 140 miles by car, is the historic city of Naples. Naples or Napoli in Italian, is a beautiful destination that is close to many other Italian attractions such as Pompei, Sorrento, the isle of Capri, the Amalfi Coast etc.
I have visited Naples a number of times and my genealogy shows that some of my ancestors were kings of Naples long long ago. A castle where they lived is shown in a photo below.
Naples is a city with variety and true Italian charm. I hope you enjoy the photos below.

This is Castel Nuovo. It is very close to the cruse terminal. It was built in 1279. The kings lived here until 1815. Two of my ancestors lived here with their families.

We enjoyed a Naples lunch of Pizza. Their pizza has a chewy crust where the gluten is well established. My pizza was topped with arugula which was delicious. Kind of like a salad and pizza in one. |

Beautiful view of Mt. Vesuvius. This Volcano is the one that wiped out Pompeii
I love these buildings built on a corner (above)
An ornate church (below)
We have enjoyed tours of the catacombs where bodies have been preserved for centuries and due to the unique humidity and natural conditions they are amazingly preserved. They strictly prohibit taking pictures. If your teenage son decides to take a picture anyway, they will yell at him over the loud speaker. There is plenty to do in this beautiful city.
