Our Daughter, Alisa, chose to go on her senior trip to Croatia. We took a cruise that visited a few ports in Croatia and Greece and Italy. I loved this beautiful port of Dubrovnik. It is affectionately called the Pearl of the Adriatic and with good reason.
Quarantining was a regular thing in the history of Dubrovnik. When visitors would arrive by boat from other places, they were placed in a holding area for a number of days. If they didn't end up sick or die they would be moved to another holding area for another period of time. If they still presented as healthy they could finally be admitted into the walled city.
A driver took us to the top of a mountain overlooking the city. A large cross stands guard there. From this mountain you can see the borders of Bosnia
Inside the walls of the city is a web of narrow cobblestone streets and shops and people selling their beautiful handmade wares. A lot of beautiful needlepoint and embroidered goods. There are several public spots in the city where you can fill your water bottle with clean, cool water that is ok to drink. It is always flowing and keeping the residents cooler in the city made of stone that can feel like an oven if you don't keep hydrated.
