Barcelona Spain

We have been to Barcelona a few times through the years. Each time we return I appreciate even more the beauty in this amazing city.  We have arrived by ship and by air. We have used public transport and have seen the city via a hop on hop off bus. In this post I will post pictures from our most recent trip.  As I find additional photos in the future, I will post more.

Art is appreciated greatly by the Citizens and Visitors of Barcelona.  If you visit and forget your camera, You will regret it.  There are photos waiting at every turn.

There is art in the architecture, landscaping and customs of the people of Spain.  Barcelona is truly a cultural feast.

Probably the most famous landmark is the La Sagrada Familia Cathedral.  This was designed by the famous artist Gaudi.  If you are a Gaudi fan, this is his home base and the best place to appreciate his exuberant artistic style.

This cathedral celebrates the Holy Family and is full of detail in true Antoni Gaudi style.

Gaudi did not seem to like empty space and places detail everywhere.  The term "gaudi" has come to describe decor that is overdone and excessive.  The Park Guell is a beautiful sprawling, outdoor museum of the works of Gaudi.  His architecture is also seem throughout the city on buildings.  I recognize it as kind of a gingerbread house looking appearance.

This view is behind the Cathedral

More city views above and an example of Gaudi design in the photo below.

Barcelona has made a name for itself also in Sports especially Soccer/Futbol.

Near the port there is a monument for Christopher Columbus.  Barcelona was the place where Columbus  reported to Queen Isabella after his return from his voyage to America.

Ciutadella park is a great place to visit complete with a zoo.

One of my favorite places in Barcelona is the walking district called La Rambla.  It is bustling with a huge variety of visitors, locals and vendors selling a little bit of everything along the walk.  A local favorite dish is a rice dish often including shrimp or other seafood called Paella.  There are vendors cooking in outside in very large pans.  Cars are not allowed in this walking area and to walk the entire La Rambla can take a couple of hours, especially if you stop to sample the wares.
