Starting in Melbourne Australia there is a magical drive that takes most of day but is worth every mile to the final destination of the 12 Apostles sandstone natural monuments carved out by the southern Australian waves. There are not actually 12 anymore as some have surrendered to the ocean through the years. They are breathtaking.

During the drive we saw beautiful beaches, Wallabies, Kangaroos and Koala Bears resting high in Eucalyptus trees.

We did the drive with our ADORABLE niece Emily and her husband Josh. They were living in Australia for a few months and it was great to get to spend the day with them exploring the Great Ocean Road.
Koala Bears and babies in the trees. To find these you look for damaged trees and they will be there in the midst, eating the Eucalyptus.
We were determined to see a kangaroo in Australia without cheating and going to a zoo. We finally found some just off the beaten path west of Melbourne.
This day was a perfect day. I would love to see these sites again and soak in the beauty of southern Australia. We loved the accents, the beauty, the wildlife and the food of Australia. Our niece is quite a food critic at heart and we enjoyed hearing about many of the dishes she had enjoyed at cafes in Melbourne. We shared some lovely meals together with this delightful couple.
