Oahu Hawaii is famous for beaches among other attractions and natural wonders. Here is a quick synopsis of the beaches of the island that we have experienced and want to mention.
- Sunset beach-Northern beach famous for surfing with huge waves especially during winter months, great for boogie boarding.
- Sharks Cove- famous for swimsuit photo ops. Not an ideal swimming beach.
- Ko Olina beach- seems to be a man made beach with dusty ground cement sand. Beautiful resort
- Waikiki beach- the most famous beach in Hawaii. Lined with hi rise hotels and loaded with tourists. We like the paved path that takes you on a long walk along the iconic beach.
- Hunama Bay- famous for snorkeling but has progressively become less desirable as the coral has been ruined. Expect to experience a long educational presentation before you are allowed to enter the bay.
- Sunset beach- dangerous beach on the Southern Leeward side of the island. The waves are crazy dangerous. Swimming here was the only time I have actually thought that I was going to die.
- China Man's hat bay- beautiful to look at but we found out after swimming there that it is shark infested.
- Kailua Beach- this is my husband's favorite beach on this island. It is a long golden sand beach. The Obamas often spend Christmas on this beach.
Waikiki is a beautiful high end area with plenty of hotels, restaurants, and stores on the beach and for blocks and blocks.
One of our favorite places to visit is the tabernacle owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Honolulu. It has peaceful areas and a beautiful courtyard in the center of the building. A large mural of Jesus Christ above a reflecting pool is a highlight.
Another beautiful are is the Temple in Laie near the campus of BYU-Hawaii.
