Iceland

Iceland is a very unique country.  Much of the island is covered with black lava rock that is covered with a green moss as seen here.  It is a unique smooth look that looks like a green lumpy blanket.  It may look inviting to lay down on but not very fun to walk on.

One of the most famous places in Iceland is the Blue Lagoon.  The water is a beautiful blue and the warm mineral water promises to help in healing.  The setting is very spa-like and is not a water park.  It is a good distance from a city and so it is a good idea to rent a car or take a taxi.

We found our church and attended a great meeting there.

Iceland is also famous for this beautiful building in Reykjavik where Ronald Reagan met with Mikhail Gorbachev in October 1986 to begin the ending of the U.S. cold war with the Soviet Union.  This is significant to our family, because as a result of this and subsequent events, 2 of our sons were later able to serve as missionaries in Russia and 2 of them served in Ukraine.

Iceland is not the land of ice that many people imagine by hearing the name.  It is a beautiful and one of a kind country.  A green refuge in the northern part of the globe in the middle of the ocean.
